Dec. 13, 2024—The 2024 CFISD Art Teacher Exhibit was held on Oct. 24-29 at the CFISD Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC).
The Art Teacher Exhibit featured a collection of works contributed by more than 60 CFISD visual art educators. District employees, students, families and friends visited the exhibit to admire the hard work and dedication of the district’s resident artists.
Charlee Rogers, Cypress Creek High School sculpture teacher, presented an intricate, hand-carved ceramic piece titled Night Spook. Rogers expressed that the Art Teacher Exhibit presented an opportunity for her to express herself through one of her favorite pastimes in a way that helped her students learn something new.

“I’m really passionate about the artwork as a creative outlet and as a therapeutic place where you can be free to make things,” Rogers said. “I hope that I instill that same sort of desire in my students as well.”
Displays ranged from large-scale dynamic paintings to small abstract sculptures. Each piece was themed based on different subjects such as nostalgia, positivity, death, loss and isolation.
The presentation illustrated how art teachers can express their own voices both inside the classroom and within the larger art community. Rashid Lane, Cypress Lakes High School visual arts teacher, shared a monochromatic acrylic painting titled The Rescue.
Justin Roberson, Bleyl Middle School art teacher, showcased an acrylic piece titled Crown #1 at the CFISD Art Teacher Exhibit.
“Taking part in an art teacher group show was a great experience,” Lane said. “I felt like I was a part of a special moment within contemporary art. Having my work on display among other artists from our district was an honor.”
Lane’s piece was also included in Visionary Magazine, a New York-based contemporary art magazine that highlights a curated collection of featured artwork.
Justin Roberson, Bleyl Middle School art teacher, showcased two works entitled Her Crown #1 and Amongst The Clouds. The acrylic pieces utilize a specific textural approach to create a unique composition for viewers.
“I am very proud to have been a part of an amazing showcase amongst my peers,” Roberson said. “I am not surprised that my fellow art instructors produced high-quality artwork because our students showcase high-quality artwork every year. Those who teach, can do!”
