CFISD names chief academic officer

Dec. 13, 2024Dr. Tonya Goree, assistant superintendent for elementary curriculum and instruction, was named the new chief academic officer on Dec. 13. Dr. Goree replaces Dr. Linda Macias, who announced her retirement effective Dec. 31.

Dr. Goree has served in her current role since 2023, leading the district’s pre-K through fifth grade curriculum and instructional programs while providing support to principals and leadership teams. Previously, she served as assistant superintendent for school improvement and transformation from 2018-2023. In this role, she provided campus support and one-to-one instructional coaching to pre-K through 12th grade principals and leadership teams regarding school improvement practices.

Dr. Goree came to CFISD in 2009, serving as an assistant principal at Tipps Elementary School before being named principal at Lee Elementary School and eventually Francone Elementary School.

Prior to CFISD, Dr. Goree served as an assistant principal in Aldine ISD (2002-2009), and taught and served as a mathematics instructional specialist in Fort Bend ISD (1991-2002).

Dr. Goree earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Lamar University and her Master of Education in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University. She earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston.

I am deeply committed to collaborating with the community and all stakeholders to ensure we give the best possible opportunities to our students in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.”
