Dec. 10, 2024—Jersey Village High School senior Briseyda Covarrubias decorated a holiday ornament that has made its way to the State Capitol. The senior painted an ornament that will represent Texas District 138 and State Rep. Lacey Hull on the 23-foot Christmas tree in the House Chamber of the Texas Capitol during the holiday season.
Each year, one personalized ornament from each of the 150 Texas House districts is chosen to help decorate the Texas-grown Christmas tree. In its 15th year, the project highlights handcrafted ornaments from constituents across the state.
“We could not be prouder and more excited for Briseyda,” said Mason Cullen, Jersey Village digital media teacher. “She is a shining example of the many talented artists here at Jersey Village and CFISD.”
Jersey Village High School senior Briseyda Covarrubias designed and painted the Christmas ornament that represents District 138 and Rep. Lacey Hull on the House Chamber Christmas tree at the Texas Capitol.
Rep. Hull visited Jersey Village on Nov. 12 to formally meet Covarrubias and see the ornament that was created to represent her district on the Capitol tree display.
“I am honored to hang the House District 138 ornament on the House Christmas tree,” Hull said. “Thank you, Briseyda, for sharing your talent to represent our district!”
Covarrubias was chosen to submit her ornament due to her advanced art skills and ability to execute the design of the ornament.
“I love to see our students being given the opportunity to showcase their talent,” said Maggie Wiley, Jersey Village principal. “It’s great to see our students receiving recognition for their hard work each day at Jersey Village.”
