The Cypress Creek High School girls’ water polo team defeated Cypress Woods High School to advance to the Region III-6A Tournament, to be held Oct. 21 at the CFISD Natatorium. The Cougars will meet Round Rock at 10:30 a.m. and are among four CFISD teams still alive in the postseason.
Oct. 19, 2023—Four CFISD water polo teams advanced past the regional quarterfinal round of the Class 6A playoffs and move on to their respective regional tournament, while the girls’ teams from Cy-Fair and Cypress Woods high schools and the boys’ teams from Cypress Ranch and Jersey Village high schools concluded their seasons and finished as regional quarterfinalists.
On the girls’ side, Cypress Ranch High School defeated Spring Branch ISD’s Memorial, 10-7. Cypress Creek High School defeated Cypress Woods, 20-3. Bridgeland High School defeated Stratford, 7-2.
The Cypress Ranch girls’ water polo team defeated Spring Brand ISD’s Memorial to advance to the Region II-6A Tournament, to be held Oct. 21 at Houston Lamar High School. The Mustangs will face Friendswood at 10:15 a.m.
On the boys’ side, Cypress Creek defeated Fort Bend Travis, 18-6.
Bridgeland and Cypress Ranch advanced to the Region II-6A Tournament, to be held Saturday, Oct. 21 at Houston Lamar High School (3325 Westheimer Road). The Bears will face Brazoswood at 9 a.m. and the Mustangs will meet Friendswood at 10:15 a.m.
The Region II-6A championship game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. All four teams reached the region tournament a year ago in the inaugural water polo University Interscholastic League postseason.
Tickets are $12 each for adults and students and can be purchased through the Houston ISD athletics website.
The Bridgeland High School girls’ water polo team defeated Stratford to advance to the Region II-6A Tournament, to be held Oct. 21 at Houston Lamar High School. The Bears will meet Brazoswood at 9 a.m.
Both Cypress Creek teams advance to the Region III-6A Tournament, to be held Saturday, Oct. 22 at the CFISD Natatorium (12550 Windfern Road). The girls’ team will meet Round Rock at 10:30 a.m. and the boys’ team will face Round Rock Westwood at 1:30 p.m.
The Region III-6A girls’ championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m., while the boys’ regional championship is scheduled for 5 p.m. Both Cypress Creek teams and Round Rock all return to a second consecutive region tournament.

Regional champions will advance to the UIL Water Polo State Tournament, to be held Saturday, Oct. 28 at North East ISD’s Josh Davis Natatorium (12002 Jones Maltsberger Road) in San Antonio.

The Jersey Village boys were defeated by Richmond Foster, 30-4. The Falcons were District 17-6A’s second seed and finished as regional quarterfinalists.
The Cypress Ranch boys were defeated by Strake Jesuit, 11-9. The Mustangs were District 16-6A champions and finished as regional quarterfinalists.
